However, buyers did have their eyes and ears tuned into two large video auctions in the 12-state CME indexing area. Cattle Country Video in Wyoming sold nearly 45,500, almost 15,000 head more than same sale last year. Big Bang Video at Joplin Livestock receipts came close to 60,000 head, about 6,000 head more than previous year. Topography is completely different for the cattlemen that sell on these auctions but the goal from the videos is the same, sell them the best they can for every consignment! Record prices prevailed at both sales for current cattle all the way to the end of the year. These two videos will give forward momentum for the video, auction and special BBQ sales in the weeks to come. Cash fed cattle market still outperforms the futures contracts, which is causing cattle feeders to pay little attention to it and keep focused on the positive market fundamentals. Packers have taken a little leverage back as cattle feeders know they need to keep moving the large steers and heifers down the road as excessive heat and humidity is showing up from rains and pivots adding moisture to the air. Cash sales last week in the Texas Panhandle trade live sales steady at 224.00; Kansas live sales sold 1.00 lower at 224.00. Nebraska live and dressed sales sold steady from 230.00 to 232.00 and 368.00 respectively. Iowa live sales sold steady from 230.00 to 233.00. For the week, Choice Boxed beef closed on Thursday at 389.75, 6.74 lower and Select closed at 378.44, 4.49 lower. Weekly Cattle Slaughter under federal inspection estimated at 475K, 23K more than last year and 113K more than a year ago.
